Below the Belt: A Frank Discussion of Trans Male Genitalia This workshop is an opportunity and safe space for trans male and masculine people to talk openly about our “junk.” Regardless of where we identify on the gender and sexuality spectrums or what our genitalia looks like, it’s time we have a frank and open conversation about our genitalia to discover our common experiences and feelings and offer support to one another. On the street and online, FTM chatter show that some of us experience sever health issues as well as dysphoria after surgery (e.g., hysterectomy/oophorectomy, genital surgery, etc.). There are guys who want to get pregnant and/or enjoy vaginal orgasms but feel their masculinity is questioned or dismissed by others. Other men want advice on sex, dating and relationships but don't know how or with whom to begin that conversation. To jumpstart our discussion, we will begin with a 10 minute introduction of issues trans men are experiencing with their genitalia from Trystan Cotten’s new book, Below the Belt: The Truth about Trans Male Genitalia. We will then launch into a discussion of issues that particopants in the workshop are currently dealing with and learn how we can support one another. Trystan Cotten is a trans activist, university professor and founder of Transgress Press. He's produced numerous articles and books on trans lives and history, including Hung Jury: Testimonies of Genital Surgery by Transsexual Men, Below the Belt: The Truth about Trans Male Genitalia, and Transgender Migrations: The Bodies, Borders and Politics of Transition. Trystan also travels around the world presenting lectures on trans identities and issues. |
